Peter Rauhofer was a DJ, remixer and producer who formerly went under the moniker Club 69 as well as Size Queen. A native of Vienna, Austria, he is famous for a variety of his remixes including Cher's, "Believe", and a number of Madonna's songs including "Nothing Really Matters", "American Life", "Nothing Fails, "Nobody Knows Me", "Get Together, "Impressive Instant, and "4 Minutes", as well as his collaboration with Britney Spears, "Me Against The Music". He has also provided remixes for Whitney Houston, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Yoko Ono, Pink and Mariah Carey. He is also behind the tribal house record label Star 69 and is frequently a producer of the label's releases.

Career

Rauhofer was a popular DJ who spun throughout the United States. He was the former resident DJ at the weekly gay dance night held at the Roxy in New York, which closed its doors in 2007. Rauhofer is currently the resident DJ of the gay dance party called "Work." Peter's party was held weekly at the Stereo nightclub in New York until March 3, 2008 when the City invoked eminent domain and acquired the building. "Work" is currently a monthly event, despite lacking a permanent venue.

Rauhofer is mostly known for spinning tribal house and used to play many gay circuit party events, until a falling out with the organizers of the White Party in Miami, a fundraiser for the AIDS charity Care Resource. In 2009, Rauhofer angered national and Miami gay activists when he produced an event the same night as the Winter Party, a charity event produced by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. In 2010, local activists protested outside Rauhofer's event, sporting t-shirts emblazoned with the logo "StopPeter.com", and claiming that Rauhofer was "profiteering on the backs of the LGBT community. In addition, twenty-five Miami community leaders signed an open letter to Rauhofer and The Opium Group, owners of the club hosting Rauhofer's event, asking them to "not sponsor a competing party next year." Rauhofer ignored these requests, and produced a competing party in 2011. One is also scheduled in 2012.

Peter Rauhofer (Club 69) won the Grammy Award in 2000 for Best Remixer of the Year for his remix of Christina Aguilera's, "Beautiful".

The Collaboration

The Collaboration was a dance music project created by Rauhofer. Rauhofer's first release as The Collaboration was "Do It Properly," a 1999 track produced with Victor Calderone, featuring Deborah Cooper on vocals. The Collaboration moniker was then used by Rauhofer on "Break 4 Love," a number one Hot Dance Music/Club Play hit featuring Pet Shop Boys.

Health issues

On Wednesday, April 17, 2013, it was made public that Peter was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The following message was posted on Peter's Facebook page by his friend and manager:

"Dear Friends and Loyal Fans,

As Peter Rauhofer's manager and dear friend for many years, it is my sad duty to announce that Peter was rushed to the emergency room several weeks ago. After confirming that Peter had a seizure, further testing has revealed a large brain tumor, something that has gone undiagnosed for quite some time. At this time, Peter's family is working closely with a team of talented Neurologists to determine the overall best treatment option. Please be assured that he is getting the absolute finest care possible, twenty-four hours a day. I know Peter would appreciate your kind consideration and positive energy during this extremely difficult period. We will post any updates and progress reports as they become available. Feel free to post your condolences as well as check into this page for updates."

Death

On May 7th, 2013. Peter Rauhofer lost his battle with brain cancer. According to his manager on his Facebook page: "Today the music industry has lost one of its true heroes. With a heavy heart I must now report that Peter Rauhofer has lost his battle with brain cancer. He passed quietly today and is survived by his mother, Helga, who resides in Austria. She will transport Peter back home to his final resting place there, but to all that knew Peter, his heart will always be in New York City. It makes me sad, not only that I have lost a friend, but that the world has lost an amazing talent and that future generations will never get to understand the magic that Peter created night after night all over the world. He is gone too soon but we will always have the vast body of music that Peter left for us. Through his music, Peter will live forever. The brightest stars always burn out too soon. Peter, you were loved and you will be terribly missed. Goodbye my friend. Please rest in peace knowing that you have brought so much joy to so many of us. I ask that his true fans keep his legacy alive by sharing his music with anyone who may not have had the opportunity to experience it for themselves."
