Wassili Nikolayevich Platov (Latvian: Vasīlijs Platovs, Russian Василий Николаевич Платов, scientific transliteration Vasilij Nikolaevič Platov; born March 24, 1881 in Riga; † July 17, 1952 in Moscow) was a Latvian chess player onist of Russian origin.
Life and Work
Vasily Platov had a doctorate in medicine. From 1903 he composed over 200 studies, most of them together with his brother Mikhail. He led study sections in various chess magazines. The “Platow Brothers” were successors of Alexei Alexeyevich Troitsky and are considered pioneers in the field of endgame studies. In 1914 and 1928 they published collections of their works under the title Sbornik schachmatnych etjudow (Collected Chess Studies).
