Willem Korteling (1889-1964, The Netherlands)

Painter and chess player, chesscomposer of endgame studies

Willem Korteling was born in Deventer and died at Diepenveen. 

He was an art painter by profession.

Chess composing
A striking feature of his endgame studies is their elegance.

He revived the Deventer Schaakgenootschap during the season of 1907-1908, and played in the first team for decades.
